Application Due for this Year's Dissertation Writers' Colloquiums

September 10, 2015 - 4:00pm

CLST invites applications from its dissertation-stage certificate students to participate in this year's Dissertation Writers' Colloquium.  The group meets once a month throughout the academic year.  At each meeting, the group discusses slices of one or two participants' dissertation that had been precirculated.   The purpose of the Colloquium is to give participants a chance to address their work to an interdisciplinary audience that can provide careful feedback. Since many participants are seeking academic positions during their colloquium year, they have in the past used their presentation to hone their job talks. The group also discusses professional issues related to writing the dissertation.

The Director works with participants to prepare panel submissions for the annual Cultural Studies Association conference held at the end of the Spring Semester in locations that vary each year (in 2016 it will in Philadelphia). Should the panels be accepted, CLST will afford help with conference travel funding.

Colloquium participants also give a short pecha-kucha presentation during every Spring Semester at the CLST Lightning Rounds, open to grad students and faculty.
